Wearable Fetal Movement Monitor

Abhishek Kumar Ghosh

This project aims to develop a cheap, wearable, multi-sensor suite to non-invasively monitor fetal movements over extended periods of time. Studies have shown that fetal movement is an important metric of fetal well-being. However, the current standard methods of fetal movement monitoring, e.g. ultrasonography, MRI, and cardiotocography, are limited to the use in clinical environment. In this research we are trying to circumvent this limitation by developing a wearable system that will give the expectant mothers an opportunity to monitor the fetal activities at home. In the long term, this will help us to better understand the relationship between fetal movements and outcomes at birth.
